Ryan Hunt
Faculty Adviser / Founder
Ryan Hunt is a sports lecturer and the associate director of Sports & Media at the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications. He founded Grandstand Magazine in 2025. Now in his fourth year at UF, he serves as the faculty adviser for Grandstand.
A 1997 graduate of UF’s CJC, Ryan spent 25 years at Sports Illustrated, including his final four as its co‑editor in chief. He managed SI’s editorial staff, leading a team of reporters and editors and overseeing the brand’s digital strategy – from daily content planning to major event coverage to franchise development.
Ryan was named the 2026 CJC Undergraduate Teacher of the Year and the SPJ Sunshine State Adviser of the Year. He also helps oversee the CJCxNYC: Sports program and has developed immersion programs for the U.S. Open and MLB spring training in Arizona.
He grew up in the Tampa–St. Petersburg area and served as the sports editor of The Independent Florida Alligator during his time as a student in Gainesville.
